Thanksgiving – catering advice for our American expat cousins in London

28 Oct 15 By: Lene McGuinness

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and despite this not being a traditionally British celebration, it seems more and more people are embracing the festivities in recent times. This could be for a number of reasons; for example, there are a large number of American expats now living in London and other areas of the UK, who are keen to continue with their traditions despite now living on British soil. Furthermore, a number of those preparing Thanksgiving meals for family and friends in the UK have usually spent some time in the US or Canada and have experienced the traditional meal first hand. Whatever the reason, in 2014 it was estimated that one in six people in the UK now celebrate Thanksgiving.

There are many different opinions on what makes a “traditional” Thanksgiving meal, but the basis of the feast seems to always be the same; turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potato, and a sweet pie for dessert. Here at Allens Hire we have all the presentation and display equipment available for you to serve the perfect dinner to your friends and family.

The centrepiece – roast turkey

The roast turkey is always going to be the centrepiece of your Thanksgiving celebrations. Before you think about roasting, carving and brining, be sure you have something to survey your turkey on at the dinner table! Our large rectangular platter is perfect to place in the middle of the table for your guests to admire your handiwork.

Potatoes, carrots and everything in between

A Thanksgiving meal wouldn’t be complete without sweet potatoes, mashed potato, stuffing, green beans and carrots. The list of side dishes served with a Thanksgiving dinner is extensive and varies depending on regional traditions. No matter what you decide to cook, keep your side dishes hot on our hot tray; perfect to keep food warm when there are a lot of guests to prepare for.

Save time and energy serving food to your guests

Whether you are cooking for four people or forty people, preparing a Thanksgiving meal can be a lengthy process. When your food is ready, make things easier for yourself and those helping you by placing side dishes, cranberry sauce, gravy and salad on a restaurant trolley to transfer everything into the dining room.

Pumpkin or pecan?

A traditional Thanksgiving feast would not be complete without either a pumpkin, pecan or apple pie. If you can’t decide which one to serve, why not choose all three? Our three tier cake stand is the perfect presentation piece to impress your guests with an array of desserts.

Allens Hire has everything you could possibly need when it comes to preparing for a dinner party. From presentation pieces to cutlery, china and furniture, we have everything available to help your event run as smoothly as possible.
