Forget Brad & George - The 5 Most Expensive Weddings in the World Ever

  • Fun Stuff
  • Events

At Allens Hire, we have catered to some of the most stylish and glamorous weddings ever held in the south of England; and many have cost a lot more than the national average of almost £20,000.

Of course, some high profile weddings make that amount look like confetti spare change…but then pop concerts and 27 different wedding cakes don’t grow on trees.

It’s been an incredible year for weddings in the public eye. Big-screen buddies Brad Pitt and George Clooney tied the knot within a matter of weeks, to Angelina Jolie and Amal Alamuddin; and another celeb wedding in 2014 boasted an even bigger price tag.

Here is a list of the most expensive famous weddings of all time:

5. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian - £13-£18million

The other event wedding of 2014 was the most extravagant of the lot. Socialite Kim Kardashian married rapper Kanye West in Italy before carrying on the celebrations in France. Along the way, they racked up a bill which included a custom Givenchy dress and almost a million dollars worth of flowers.

4. Prince William and Kate Middleton - £21 million

The biggest wedding of 2011 was enjoyed by millions around the globe, not to mention around 3,000 guests. Those lucky enough to enjoy a slice, would taste an £50,000 wedding cake, while Kate was a feast for the eyes in a £250,000 wedding dress.

Yet Will’s nuptials were dwarfed in price by his parent’s ceremony but we’ll come to that in a moment.

3. Amit Bhatia and Vanisha Mittal - £49 million

Vanish Mittal, the daughter of India’s richest man, married banker Amit Bhatia in 2005. The spectacular celebration was held in Versailles; where elite chefs were flown in from India and guests enjoyed a performance by Kylie Minogue. We should be so lucky.

2. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum and Sheikha Hind Bint Al Maktoum – £28 million

In 1979, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum married his first cousin Sheikha Hind Bint Al Maktoum. The ceremony was Dubai’s first major public event and they certainly made it count. A five day holiday was declared and a stadium was built from scratch to accommodate 20,000 guests.

The event cost £28 million but accounting for inflation this would amount to around £62 million today.

1. Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer - £30 million

This ill-fated celebration still stands as the biggest of them all, many years after taking place. Adjusted for inflation the wedding cost around £69 million, including a ceremony which took place in front of 3,500 and a reception which boasted 27 wedding cakes.

More than 750 million people around the world watched Charles and Diana exchange vows on their television sets. It was an incredible occasion and still stands as the most expensive wedding of all time.
