Charity Event Ideas

25 Oct 19 By: Lene McGuinness

If you are organising a charity event, deciding how you are going to entertain your guests while raising money for a good cause can be tricky. To attract guests, your charity night will need to combine excellent entertainment with getting your message across. So, choose a venue that you know your guests will love, organise some delicious food and come up with a great theme. Here are some ideas to help you get inspired.

Auction

Hosting an auction is a classic part of any charity event. You can choose to have a traditional auction, a silent auction or a themed auction. You can theme your auction around a certain type of item such as experiences or, if appropriate, theme it around your cause. Keep the auction part of your event short, no more than half an hour or so, and hire someone who can keep your guests entertained, while also keeping the auction going.

Charity ball

A charity ball is a popular way to raise money for a cause. Who doesn't love getting all dressed up and enjoying a glamorous night? Some of the most talked-about events that grace the society pages of magazines and newspapers are charity balls. Famous ones include the Mat Gala at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, Caudwell Children Butterfly Ball and the Royal Caledonian Ball (said to be the oldest charity ball in the world)

Speaker event

Speaker events are becoming hugely popular. People are happy to pay good money to hear remarkable people speak. From those who have survived highly traumatic experiences to athletes and adventurers, motivational and inspiring speakers have become a popular trend in the last few years. As a charity, you can ask your own trustees to speak (if there is someone appropriate), invite a well-known personality or even ask a person your charity has helped to talk about their experience.

Children’s event

Perfect for a children's charity, why not host a fun event for families. From charity fun days to charity film screenings and even a children's ball, a kid’s event is a great way to get children involved with fundraising. Make sure you have some great entertainment for the kids, which can include circus acts, appearances of their favourite characters, face painting and dancers.
