London’s top Christmas events

05 Dec 16 By: Lene McGuinness

London becomes a Christmas lover's dream over the festive period with an array of seasonal pop-ups, Christmas markets and heart-warming events. As one of the most visited destinations in the world, it’s no surprise that almost every corner of the capital now has its own Christmas event. From pop-up ski chalets to the ever growing Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, we take a look at the top Christmas events happening in London this season.

Vauxhall Winter Village

Vauxhall has been transformed into ski town by the very people who brought you the Street Food Garden. Sitting conveniently next to Vauxhall Station, just south of the river, this Alpine adventure offers all the excitement of après without the need to get on a plane. Expect traditional fondue, warming soups, winter cocktails and mulled wine or vin chaud, as the French call it. Bon appetit!

Winter wonderland

Winter Wonderland is now in its tenth year and is very much a part of London’s Christmas scene. This year you can enjoy the traditional attractions such as ice skating, fairground rides and Christmas market stalls; as well as some newer ones, such as Zippos Christmas Circus and Nutcracker on Ice. The Magical Ice Kingdom is also back with an arctic adventure, where you can go fishing with Inuits and have your photo taken with a giant polar bear.

Backyard Cinema's Winter Night Garden

The Backyard Cinema has created a Narnia-inspired forest for their winter pop up. Located in Elephant and Castle, you can enjoy a screening or two of festive classics such as Love Actually, Die Hard and Home Alone. So be prepared to walk through a wardrobe and snuggle under a blanket with a cup of mulled wine for a truly modern Christmas experience.

Christmas at Somerset House

The Fortnum's arcade, in picturesque Somerset House, is fast becoming a Christmas tradition. Located in the elegant rooms of the West Wing, you will be able to find the finest Fortnum and Mason food, drink and decorations. There is also a Fortnum's lodge next to the building’s famous ice rink. This year the ice rink will host club nights with a number of famous DJs.

Queens Ice and Bowl

Located in Queensway, West London, this 1930s gem has just undergone a major renovation and will be opening up on December 8th. Now London's largest entertainment venue, the Queens Ice and Bowl boasts a glossy looking ice rink, a 17 lane luxury bowling alley and a diner created by pop-up king, Jimmy Garcia.
