Welcome to Allenshire's FAQ section. At Allens Catering Equipment and Furniture Hire we pride ourselves on providing an extensive range to the catering trade, event organisers for corporate and private sectors as well as dealing direct with the public.

  • I've submitted a web enquiry - what happens next?
    We will check to see if we have the items in stock and will send you a quotation including cleaning and delivery charges and a security deposit and VAT. We will suggest an alternative if we do not have the items for the period you require. You will then need to let us know if you want to go ahead with the order. Only when we take payment will we consider the job booked and confirmed.
  • Do you have a minimum order quantity?
    There are no minimum order quantities for collection and return. However, if you want us to deliver then our delivery charges will apply and we reserve the right to say that we will not deliver for small quantities as they may not be enough to cover our costs.
  • Are your website prices VAT inclusive?
    All our prices on the website are excluding VAT. Your quotation will show the net amount of goods and services plus VAT.
  • How long can I keep the goods hired?
    Our catalogue prices are for a 24 hour hire. Weekends (Friday to Monday) and Bank Holidays will be charged at one day's hire only. Otherwise see our extended hire rates. Our online ordering system will calculate up to 2 hires. If you are looking for more than a week's hire then please contact our sales staff in London or Southampton for a full quotation.
  • Do I have to clean the goods I hire?
    No - that is one of the benefits of hiring. Simply remove any heavy food debris and then repack everything in the boxes you received them in. The cleaning will be taken care of by our warehouse. The cleaning charge will be listed on your invoice for any applicable items. There is no cleaning charge for furniture or linen.
  • What happens about breakages?
    We include a refundable security deposit on any orders. This is scaleable to the amount ordered, however, on most small orders this will be £100. Replacement costs are shown on our orders. Any breakages will be charged at these rates and deducted from your security deposit accordingly.
  • How does your security deposit work?
    We will charge a refundable security deposit for all goods hired. For small orders we will charge a £150 security deposit. After this the security deposit is scaleable to the amount ordered. The deposit will be returned after any breakages have been assessed and deducted accordingly.
  • What are your delivery charges?
    During standard operating hours we will charge £75 covering both delivery and collection to anywhere within the M25. Any out of hours deliveries and collections will attract extra charges which our sales staff will be able to provide you with. Large orders where extra staff may be required will also attract extra charges.
  • Can I collect the goods myself?
    Absolutely - This is often the most cost effective method of hiring for our customers particularly on small orders. You will be required to provide 2 forms of ID - one being a current utility bill or bank statement showing your address and the other being appropriate photo ID, eg, driving license or passport.
  • How do I pay?
    For non account customers we will require payment by credit card or in cash to secure the order. If you pay by cheque, this will need to have cleared before collection. If you are a regular customer frequently ordering reasonable amounts from us then you may wish to apply for a credit account. Forms are available on application.
  • How do I know what size table to order?
    Generally we work on the basis of 2 ft per person on a trestle table, so that if it is our standard 6ft x 2.6ft trestle then you would fit 6 people – 3 on either side comfortably or 8 people max if you have 2 people at either end. On this basis you would fit a maximum of 6 people on a 4ft round, 10 on a 5ft round and 12 on a 6ft round. However, on a round table, for extra comfort we carry half sizes and therefore can supply a more generous amount of space, eg 5ft 6 inch round for 10 people and a 4ft 6 inch round for 6 people.
